Machined parts are components produced by removing material from a solid workpiece using various machining processes, such as turning, milling, drilling, grinding, or CNC machining, to achieve precise dimensions, shapes, and surface finishes. These parts are integral to nearly every industry, including automotive, aerospace, medical, electronics, and consumer goods, where they serve critical functions in assemblies ranging from engine components to surgical instruments. The production of machined parts begins with selecting a raw materialtypically metals (aluminum, steel, brass), plastics (ABS, PEEK), or compositesbased on the parts intended use, mechanical properties (strength, corrosion resistance), and machinability. The material is then shaped through subtractive manufacturing: cutting tools remove excess material to transform the workpiece into the desired form, guided by engineering drawings or CAD models that specify tolerances, which can range from ±0.01 mm for general parts to ±0.0001 mm for high-precision components like aerospace valves. Machined parts can be categorized by their complexity: simple parts include bolts, washers, and shafts, produced using basic turning or drilling; complex parts, such as gearboxes, turbine blades, or medical implants, require multi-axis CNC machining to create intricate geometries with multiple features (threads, slots, cavities). The choice of machining process depends on the parts design: turning is used for cylindrical parts, milling for flat or irregular shapes, and grinding for achieving ultra-smooth surfaces. Post-machining treatments, such as heat treatment to enhance hardness, plating for corrosion resistance, or painting for aesthetics, are often applied to meet functional requirements.
