Stamping part material acceptance is a vital quality control step that occurs when materials (such as steel coils, aluminum sheets, or copper strips) are received from suppliers. Its goal is to verify that the delivered materials meet the agreed-upon specifications, preventing non-conforming materials from entering the stamping process—which could lead to part defects, production delays, and increased costs.
The acceptance process starts with document verification. Receiving teams check the supplier’s certificate of conformity (CoC), which includes material grade, batch number, mechanical test results, and traceability information. They cross-reference this with the purchase order to ensure alignment—for example, confirming that the delivered steel grade (e.g., DP600 for dual-phase steel) matches the ordered grade. Next, visual inspection is conducted: inspectors check for surface defects like scratches, dents, rust, or uneven coating (critical for galvanized materials). They also verify physical dimensions, such as coil width, sheet thickness, and flatness, using tools like calipers, micrometers, and straightedges. For example, a 1.5mm-thick aluminum sheet must meet a tolerance of ±0.05mm to ensure proper stamping formability.
Sampling is another key part of acceptance. Based on standards like AQL (Acceptable Quality Level), inspectors take random samples from the delivery batch for further testing—such as checking hardness (using a Rockwell hardness tester) or ductility (via bend tests). If any non-conformities are found (e.g., material thickness outside tolerance), the team documents the issue, notifies the supplier, and initiates corrective actions (return, replacement, or rework). Accepted materials are labeled with traceable identifiers (batch numbers, supplier codes) and stored in designated areas to prevent mixing with other grades. By rigorously verifying material compliance, stamping part material acceptance ensures only qualified materials proceed to stamping, safeguarding production quality.
