Dimensional accuracy and flatness are also key outcomes of surface grinding. The CNC control system ensures that the grinding wheel removes material evenly across the workpiece surface, achieving the desired thickness and flatness. This is particularly important for parts that serve as mating surfaces or require precise dimensional control. For example, in the manufacturing of precision molds or machine bases, surface grinding is used to ensure that the surfaces are flat within extremely tight tolerances.

Surface grinding can be performed as a standalone operation or as part of a sequence of machining processes. It may follow rough machining operations, such as milling or turning, to refine the surface and achieve the final dimensions. The process parameters, including the grinding wheel speed, feed rate, and depth of cut, need to be carefully optimized to balance productivity, surface quality, and tool life. By effectively utilizing CNC surface grinding, manufacturers can produce parts with superior surface characteristics, meeting the stringent requirements of various industries and applications.
