316 Stainless Steel Stamping Parts
What is 316 Stainless Steel Stamping?
316 Stainless Steel Stamping is a high-end precision forming process specifically designed for 316 series stainless steel (molybdenum-containing austenitic stainless steel) sheets. It processes 316 stainless steel sheets into various structural parts and functional parts through customized anti-sticking and wear-resistant molds and adaptive process parameters. The core characteristics of 316 stainless steel include extreme corrosion resistance (containing 2%-3% molybdenum, resistant to seawater and acid-base media), high temperature resistance (continuous service temperature ≤800℃), hygiene and non-toxicity (complying with food-grade/medical-grade standards), stable strength (tensile strength 480-620MPa), and self-healing passivation film. The stamping process achieves integrated forming of parts, with core features of "triple advantage superposition of extreme environment adaptability, precision forming, and hygiene safety", making it suitable for mass production scenarios with strong corrosion, high hygiene requirements, and high-temperature working conditions.
Compared with ordinary carbon steel and 304 stainless steel stamping, its core difference lies in adapting to 316 stainless steel's characteristics of "higher strength than 304, significant work hardening, and easy sticking to molds". Through mold anti-sticking treatment, stepwise forming, and passivation film protection processes, it maximizes the retention of its corrosion resistance and hygiene advantages while ensuring forming accuracy, and is the preferred forming solution for extreme environments and high-end scenarios.
How It Works
The core of 316 stainless steel stamping is "balancing passivation film protection and precision forming". It overcomes its processing difficulties through process optimization, achieving a balance between forming quality and material performance. The key processes and control points are as follows:
316 Stainless Steel Sheet Preparation: Select 316/316L/316Ti stainless steel sheets with a thickness of 0.3mm-10mm; pre-treatment includes oil-free cleaning (removal of surface oil to avoid damaging the passivation film) and precision leveling (flatness error ≤0.01mm/m). Cold-rolled sheets are preferred (surface roughness Ra≤0.2μm, suitable for hygiene-grade/precision parts).
Mold Adaptation and Anti-sticking Design: Molds are made of cemented carbide (WC-Co) or Cr12MoV hardened steel, with TiN/CrN coating treatment on the surface (hardness ≥HRC 70). The mold clearance is set to 1.1-1.15 times the material thickness (adapting to work hardening characteristics); the blank holder adopts an elastic buffer structure to apply uniform pressure (1-3MPa), avoiding passivation film rupture caused by local stress concentration.
Precision Stamping Forming: Select equipment (CNC punch press, hydraulic punch press, servo punch press) according to part complexity, and control the stamping speed (10-120 times/minute, lower than carbon steel to avoid sticking and heating); simple parts adopt single-pass forming, while complex parts (deep drawing, multi-bending) adopt 2-4 stepwise forming passes. Stress relief treatment (200-250℃) is performed after each pass; use special stainless steel stamping lubricants (chlorine-free, residue-free, not affecting subsequent passivation) to reduce mold wear and part scratches.
Post-processing and Inspection: Remove lubricants by ultrasonic cleaning after forming, and perform passivation treatment if necessary (strengthen the passivation film and repair possible damage during stamping); inspection items include dimensional tolerance (±0.02mm-±0.08mm), surface quality (Ra≤0.3μm, no scratches/burrs), corrosion resistance (salt spray test ≥2000 hours without corrosion), and hygiene-grade verification (complying with FDA/GB 4806 standards).
Throughout the process, "passivation film protection" is the core. By optimizing molds, adjusting parameters, and using special lubricants, it solves the pain points of 316 stainless steel stamping (easy
